Peru Prices Part 3
August 28th 2009 03:07
Below is a list of our daily expenses in Peru to give those planning on visiting the country an idea of the cost of things, and to give those following our journey an idea of what we have got up to. We have a daily budget of $60 between the two of us. Taking into account exchange rates (we have been using travellers`cheques) we can spend 177 Nuevos Soles a day on our budget. At the end of the list I include running totals for our trip so far.
Medicine = 13.40
Fags = 12
Flying Dog Hostel (30 per person) = 60
Huaca Pullcana entrance fee (we paid for us and our friends) = 30
Huaca Pullcana is a pyramid of sorts in the centre of the city which the Lima people built. I doubt if they referred to themselves as the Limas.
Inca Kola = 1.80
Lunch for 5 people = 93
I ate guinea pig. It wasn`t bad. It tasted a bit like chicken.
Beer = 16
Mutton soup = 8
Total = 234.2 (57.2 over budget)
Lima
Taxi to friend`s house where we stayed for free = 6
We changed $500 traveller`s cheques into $495 cash and then went to a cambio and changed $400 into Soles, which made an exchange rate of 2.94 Soles to $1. This maintained the allowance of 177 Soles a day. Interbank was particularly useless at dealing with travellers cheques. It took over an hour to complete the transaction.

This was a great discovery. The taxi driver recommended it. We had our own room with shower and cable TV near the beach. Upstairs there was a kitchen we could use. Thus started 6 days of heavy smoking and watching countless episodes of House and Two and a Half Men.

We really enjoyed this part of our trip in Peru: seeing our friend in Lima and getting a local`s perspective of the city was great; and then getting to the coast for the first time in the trip was a relief. The weather was warmer and no more high altitude to deal with. Plus we managed an awesome score which is always good for the morale.
Total Spent = 3,992.8 Argentine Pesos ($1,079) and Bolivia $1,016 and 1,566.7 Soles ($530) and 1,610.85 ($544) And 1,470.7 ($500)
Total = $3,669
